Study notes

Unit 9 looks at how the world became more connected after 1900. Advances in communication (radio, the internet, cell phones), transportation, medicine (vaccines, antibiotics), and agriculture (the Green Revolution) transformed lives and caused huge population growth, while new diseases (HIV/AIDS) and old ones spread in a globalized world. Study environmental effects like climate change and deforestation, the rise of free-market economic policies and trade agreements, and new global institutions (the UN, WTO, EU). Cover calls for reform (human rights, women's rights, environmental movements), the spread of global culture, and resistance to globalization.
